How We Make Floors Shine
Our Epoxy Coating Process
Epoxy flooring provides you endless possibilities of the different coatings you can get. At Talavera Tile and Surfacing, we offer you a wide variety of coatings, from solid colors and styles to granite and stains. Our coating process is quick and simple, starting off by mixing the epoxy resin with a hardener. Before pouring the mixture, we’ll make sure that there are no imperfections on the surface. This valuable step will help us ensure that the end results are superior. Once the surface is prepped and ready to go, our crew will apply the first coat of epoxy, following with the second coat the next day. Finally, the chemical- resistant topcoat is applied to seal in the epoxy and give the high luster component that is sought out. Our expert and professional epoxy crew in Kelowna work efficiently to meet deadlines and provide first- rate results. Epoxy flooring is a long-term flooring solution that is seamless and durable. Ultimately, the lifespan of an epoxy floor will depend on its use. If it gets a lot of foot traffic, or has heavy equipment driving on it frequently, then it will usually last between 3 and 5 years or more with proper care and maintenance. Epoxy floors that are properly cared for and have light to moderate foot traffic can last up to 20 years.
Epoxy flooring is one of the hardest and most durable types of flooring on the market. That being said, they are not indestructible. With enough force, epoxy floors can be scratched, cut our gouged. The average epoxy floor can withstand forces of more than 10,000 psi.
Yes, it can. However, there is some prep work needed to do so. Epoxy flooring has a cured surface. This means that a chemical bond with new epoxy material is not possible. We can create a mechanical bond by lightly sanding the old epoxy material which will allow the new epoxy material to form a bond and stick to the old epoxy flooring.
The curing time for epoxy flooring is 7 days. At this point, the epoxy floor will reach its maximum strength and durability. That being said, epoxy floors are usually okay to walk on after approximately 12 hours, and ready for light use after 24 hours. To ensure the curing process goes smoothly and no complications arise, be sure to limit use and not place heavy objects on the floor for 7 days after the epoxy has been poured.
